2022 EUROPEAN MUSEUM ACADEMY CONFERENCE AND AWARD CEREMONY
In the present time of rapid political and social change museums are called upon to reflect on such historical transition phases as well as to function as agents of social change themselves. The series of workshops thematises the impact of the Ukraine war on museums in this Eastern European country as well as contested memories regarding the Second World War in today’s Russia and Germany. Other workshops deal with the memory of our host Esch-sur-Alzette as the current European Capital of Culture. On the one hand, it will be about the topic of political resistance against Nazi Germany and, on the other hand, about the fundamental challenges of the development of a former industrial landscape into a cultural landscape. Another workshop addresses the role that art museums can play to engender social impact. Finally, another workshop will deal with the new cultural route of the Council of Europe – a route dedicated to the women writers as agents of gender-equality.
